PBE Update 4/9/2024 | Patch 14.8 | MSI Patch, Riot Commentary

The League of Legends test environment has updated! Here's the most recent changes I've been able to mine. Some more complex changes such as bug fixes and changes to spell behavior are more difficult to extract so I might have missed them and I am always improving my tools to get better results in the future. Riot took their sweet time planning the changes for this patch, finally releasing a big crop of changes to the PBE after Phroxzon's preview dropped last night. There are a large number of champion buffs compared to nerfs, some changes seem focused on shaking up the MSI meta while a few are directed towards regular play.


Champs getting buffs today include Akali, Draven, Jarvan, Kai'Sa, Leblanc, Olaf, Sylas, and Thresh.


For nerfs we have Azir, Briar, Zac, and Zeri.


Skarner is getting a series of adjustments to support his jungle while trying to limit his power as a top lane cheese pick.

Item Balance Changes


I'm seeing some new code for Eclipse, perhaps game-mode specific adjustments but more likely just something for internal testing as it doesn't seem like this code is used anywhere. The calc value refers to the % health damage dealt by the item's proc, B is a buff while C is a nerf.

Commentary


Phroxzon


14.8 is the MSI patch!


Voidgrubs:

- We're buffing Voidgrubs this patch by buffing the damage and the number of grubs required to get the first grub summon spawn

- We're also separating the spawn time from Dragon a bit to make trading less of a reality and to have teams engage in more conflict


Baron Attacks:

- Baron attacks are a little too unthreatening right now

- They're not intended to be super threatening as powerful Baron attacks can cause issues with games stalling out and teams being unable to take Barons

- We also don't want to excessively overload players mindshare when taking Barons, but we think there's some room to make them stronger


Skarner: 

- Skarner is doing a lot better as players play him, gaining a decent amount of performance day over day

- We're targeting some nerfs to bring his Top and Jungle closer in line

- We're looking to make some adjustments to make him smoother to play, while trying to keep the impactful feeling of the boulder


Mordekaiser:

- A pretty large change here, but making his Ult not QSS'able

- This change was originally done to prevent Morde from becoming a Pro staple

- As time has gone on, he has too much counterplay in especially the higher ranks and experientially, if you're picking Morde, you want this portion of his kit to be effective


Azir:

- Azir has been too present after re-entering the Pro meta.


Briar:

- She's too effective in especially the lower ranks

- Even though her winrates are being propped up by Skarner's low ones, they're still too high


Zac:

- While he isn't technically overpowered, his lane phase is relatively uninteresting

- We're looking to tap him down a little bit, especially to make sure Jungle is still his most powerful role


Zeri:

- After all the Crit item changes have shaken out, Zeri has emerged as one of the biggest beneficiaries of these changes

- We're tapping her down and her regular performance is still pretty healthy

- We're feeling a lot more confident about her long term balance state after all the changes, but she's just a bit too strong right now
